Working On Our Muscles

Our life is…normal!

Gracie has recovered from surgery so much faster than I thought was possible! We haven’t had a doctor appointment in 3 weeks! Amazing! We go to the pediatrician for her 6 month check up this week, so it will be nice to get all her stats and see how she is doing.

It feels a little surreal to have surgery behind us! Gracie has been doing really well. Not only is she eating almost twice as much at each feeding, but she has started rolling over!

*sorry about the size of this video. Something is wrong with the program we are using.

She is also doing a much better job holding her head up! One common characteristic of Down syndrome is hypotonia (low muscle tone), so her core is pretty weak. We have to work every day to build her strength. Holding her head up and sitting up is a lot of work! Gage likes to be an encouragement and show Gracie how it’s done!

Gage continues to amaze us with how sweet and loving he is with Gracie. He cheers for her when he sees her holding her head up or rolling over. She loves watching him, so he is a great incentive for her to work!

I was cooking the other night and Gracie was fussing in the living room. I peeked around the corner and heard Gage say, “Hey sweet baby. You don’t have to cry. I’ll go tell mommy you’re hungry.” Of course I had to snap a picture of him consoling her.

When I go in to get Gracie in the mornings, she is usually staring at her art I made her above her crib. I think she likes all the colors and the way it moves if the air is on. It takes her a minute to realize I am there sometimes because she is concentrating so much!

Tonight, we had some big steps with Gracie sitting in her high chair straight up (therefore using more strength to hold her head straight and not lean), and eat some cereal from a spoon! Go Gracie!

Later this month, we will do another check up with the cardiologist, and then visit the ENT, to make sure her hearing is good and everything looks like it should. We are praying for boring appointments! I’ll update after her regular pediatrician appointment this week with her new stats! Here’s hoping all this eating she has been doing is helping with her weight!

Until then, here’s a joke for your Monday.
